Head, Shoulder, Knees and Toes
I have been working on a series of soft sculpures based on parts of my body and in reference to the children’s action rhyme “Head, Shoulder, knees and toes”. So these are my toes! Very old fabrics from my childhood, naturally dyed and stitched up in different simple stitches. the sort of stitches you learn when you first learn to sew. They are stuffed with soft merino wool and the bottom side of each piece is unholstered with muslin nappy material and the name of the part of the body stitched in braille with French knots. The idea is to scatter them around on top of a circular linen sheet – just as though they have been thrown down by a baby or young child after playing.
